There are many excellent web sites and books available for the student of color genetics. It has been my experience that pigeon breeders fall into 2 categories... those that are very knowledgeable regarding color genetics and those that are novices. It seems to be an all or nothing situation. I would like to address those that are just learning the "art" of breeding "color". I will try to explain some of the basic issues that novice color breeders encounter. The entire scope of color breeding is much more detailed and involved than I will map out below. But this will be a start!
